Lack Of Care Leads to Death of an 86 Years Old Woman

Jamesina-MackenzieLack of care led to the death of an 86 years old woman, Jamesina Mackenzie, who died in May 2009. She was a resident of Dingwall care home and was suffering from long term illness.

Investigation in this case has revealed that ignorance in terms of care led Mackenzie to suffer from infectious bed sores, of whose dressing was not done on regular basis.

He hearing for this case has initiated and a name, which has come to limelight, is of mental health nurse, Jacqueline Fraser, who has taken care of Mackenzie.

Jacqueline Fraser has affirmed in hearing that if Mackenzie would have been shifted to hospital then she would have been alive as she would have got better care. On which solicitor for the home owners RDS Healthcare, Niall Ramsay asked Fraser that doe she means to say that home care was unable to provide proper care.

Fraser said there was shortage of staff in the resident care home, so there is great possibility that sometimes medical staff have forgotten to change Mackenzie’s dressing.

Ramsay changed his direction of investigation and started questioning Fraser about the staff members. He also asked her the reason that why only Fraser’s name is written in Mackenzie’s medical record file. On which Fraser was of the view that there were other nurses as well who have been changing the dressing, but they might have forgot to fulfill the medical record data.

There were some incidences as well where she found Mackenzie’s bed sores have not been dressed and here Ramsay got another point to ask questions.

He inquired her about the availability of staff and also asked her that whether staff was not capable of taking good care of residents or there was something else, which she has been hiding.

Fraser could not handle the pressure and broke down into tears and later she said it was just shortage of staff and nothing else. Further inquiry is in process.
