AIDS Still a Global Challenge

AIDS Still a Global ChallengeThere is no denial that AIDS is a global challenge for countries across the world, and with World AIDS Day being celebrated on December 1, there are going to be lots of education and awareness programmes.

There is no dearth of efforts from countries across the world to accept the severity of the disease and that’s what has made AIDS a contentious issue for one and all. On the same lines, the Coastal Health District in collaboration with the Georgia AIDS Coalition would be offering free HIV testing on World AIDS Day, from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. at Forsyth Park in Savannah.

Followed by that, a candle light vigil is being planned. There have been enough discussions on the issue of AIDS screening and that’s why these tests would be done so that significant number of people could be tested for the same.

“This event will make it possible for people who don’t know their status to get tested quickly and get any counseling they may need”, said Susan Alt, Coastal Health District HIV Director, who is of opinion that there needs to be some targeted strategies to beat the scar of AIDS.

If reports from the U. S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are to be believed , one out of five HIV infected patients are not aware about the infection in the US, which make it very clear that a lot needs to be done to escalate the level of awareness among people.

Though people do get themselves checked for range of other health concerns, people do at times avoid the need of getting screened for HIV.

With voices being heard from every corner to pay more attention to eradicate the scar of AIDS, it would be worth seeing how long would it tackle for the world to get rid of the scary infection.
