Recent reports have revealed that cherry juice is something one can rely on for good health and a sound sleep. The study includes volunteers who took to drinking this juice every day, for a week. It was found by the end of the study that they had had a sounder sleep than people who were not drinking cherry juice.
They had added 25 minutes to their sleeping time and this had resulted in keeping them fresher and they were able to wake up feeling better.
The study was conducted by a team from the Northumbria University. The quality of their sleep was now better than before. It was revealed by Dr. Glynn Howatson that this study means cherry juice is ideal for people dealing with sleeping disorders. It would ease the insomnias from their trouble and would also be able to help people who are suffering from jetlag or stress and tensions.
The reason for the same is the presence of melatonin in cherries. This is a catalyst for good sleep as it makes hormonal changes in the body and brings sound sleep.
“Although melatonin is available over the counter in other countries, it is not freely available in the UK. What makes these findings exciting is that the melatonin contained in tart cherry juice is sufficient to elicit a healthy sleep response”, revealed one of the team members from the research, Dr. Jason Ellis.
It was further added that these results show strong influence of our food on the way we sleep. That’s why it is essential to eat food that easily digestible, and not too oily or fatty, for a sound and healthy sleep.
