Even Less Alcohol Consumption Matters

Even Less Alcohol Consumption Matters American Medical Association journal has published a research which revealed that consumption of small amount of alcohol could also become the cause of breast cancer.

Therefore, they should abstain from it. Dr. Wendy Chen, one of the researchers was of the view that even if women have wine between three to six small glasses per week, then they welcome 15% increased risk of breast cancer.

It was one of the longest studies, which took almost 28 years to reach at the conclusion. In the study, 105,986 people took part and after knowing the results, it was recommended that women should refrain from alcohol in order to protect themselves from increased risk of the cancer.

Chen said they have followed many studies and all of them mentioned links of high alcohol intake with breast cancer but, no one ever tried to look other side and research about the chances of breast cancer due to low alcohol intake.

As per the research, women who have never consumed alcohol haves less chances of being diagnosed with breast cancer, as only 281 women out of 100,000 are diagnosed with it every year.

It's often said that less alcohol does not do any harm but, Chen said they have proof to show that even mild intake can be quite taxing for health. He further asserted that those who took between three to six glasses of wine a week, their cancer chances were 333 per 100,000 women. And, if it got increased to 19 glasses then risk increased to 413 women.

Chen said, "Although the exact mechanism for the association between alcohol consumption and breast cancer is not known, one probable explanation would involve alcohol's effects on circulating estrogen levels". He said the difference is not much, but its impact is huge.
