In the last couple of weeks, many cases of golden staph infections across the public hospitals of Australia have been making news. For a surprise, the two hospitals Mona Vale and Manly have been reported of having minimum cases of golden staph infections.
Recently, Myhospital web site uploaded a list of hospitals which were found to be severely affected by the golden staph infections. It has been reported that the Mona Vale Hospital had just one case of infection in last 55,665 days of examination.
However, Manly Hospital had maximum of three cases of infection in the examination of 55,665 days. The golden staph infections are one of the fatal infections which is caused because of the negligence occurred at the time of surgery.
It is for the very first time when patients were made aware of the infections caused by the hospitals. The Federal Health Minister, Nicola Roxon, is hopeful that the details provided by the Myhospital would help patients in deciding as to where they should seek treatment.
As many as nine public hospitals of Australia have been found to be severely infected with golden staph infections. The hospitals which were reported of being infected included, Westmead, Liverpool, Concord and Blacktown.
It has come to light that lack of bedding is one of the main causes of spread of infection to other patients. Every year, about 7,000 golden staph infections are spread to other hospitals. The Federal Health Minister has urged the doctors to maintain hygiene by washing hands before and after conducting a surgery.
Often, a patient becomes a victim of infection by infected drip and cotton. The hygiene and long waiting list of the hospitals have for long been a matter of discussion. When it comes to elective surgery, there are a number of patients who are made to wait longer. The hospitals are required to work not only on hygiene but also on reducing the waiting hours.
