The world's longest Sea crossing-Qatar-Bahrain causeway project- would be started during the first quarter of 2010 as claimed by persons concerned with the development. The proposed 40-kilometre causeway would boost trading ties between Qatar and Bahrain, making a convenient way for passengers and freight travel trough road and rail links.
William Nevel, Public Affairs Manager for Qatar-Bahrain Causeway Management, Kellogg, Brown & Root International (KBR), added, “The consortium of six contractors which includes Vinci from France is negotiating with the management of the Qatar-Bahrain causeway for the final design and cost. It has to be accepted by the board of directors of the Qatar-Bahrain Causeway Foundation before the project can start."
Nevel, while declining to divulge the financial details of the project, said that two countries are contributing in the ambitious project. Meanwhile, the project cost is estimated to be at $2.7 billion to be contributed by Qatar and Bahrain.
The Qatar-Bahrain Causeway Foundation is also said to be in negotiation with some lenders to avail loans for funding the project, consisting one emergency road each in two lanes.
