Is one of the world's biggest drug companies following spurious means to escalate its profits? Perhaps that's what Australian pharmacists by and large believe in. It has been told that as per a deal signed between Pfizer and Pharmacy Guild of Australia in July, Pfizer would pay pharmacies $7 as administration fee in lieu of getting a patient signed up for their much touted support program.
As the news is getting the desired attention from pharmacies across Australia, it's largely being believed that Pfizer is using negative tactics to press its grip on the market. After a patient is being signed up for the support program, Pfizer would inform him about their other drugs.
It appears to be another marketing strategy to instigate power in the market which is full of competitors. The unleashed report is being criticized by the pharmacists' union. Pharma companies must inject their best efforts to offer the best possible drugs instead of looking for ways and means to reach their target market.
It had been further told that Pfizer used to receive information, including mobile phone numbers and email addresses along with patient's health condition so that Pfizer can offer them their other drugs also.
However, its being largely believed that this deal has been made in the same lines as done earlier with Blackmores, which had brought bad name to the pharmacists.
''The guild often speaks as the voice of pharmacy but it's becoming pretty clear that they are just out for commercial ventures and not the interests of patients", said one of the pharmacists who had all words of opposition for those who are indulging in such practices.
In defense, pharmacy guild has claimed that patients were told about the desired information before taking consent from them for Pfizer's support program, while Pfizer has completely refuted the allegations.
