NSW Premier Barry Calls Labor Power Bill A Stunt

NSW Premier Barry Calls Labor Power Bill A StuntEnergy Utilities Protection Bill 2011 stands amidst controversies, as on one side the NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell said the bill to be a strategy of the opposition to privatize the sector, on other side the opposition terms it to be quite vital for the development of the region.

The bill has been proposed by Labor leader John Robertson, who said that on Wednesday he would be presenting this bill, and to make this bill functional it needed to be passed from both the houses. But Barry is not in the favor of the bill, and said that he would not give green signal to the bill until an inquiry commission would not sit on this matter.

Barry said that he could smell something wrong, and if he is not wrong then the opposition is secretly planning to privatize the energy sector. Barry had no answer to the question that whether he would agree to the bill or not, if both

the houses would give positive signal to it. He just said it to be 'a stunt from the opposition side'.

State electricity assets could not be sold, said Barry, who further affirmed that in a meeting it was decided that an in-depth inquiry would be conducted, which would look into the matter from scratch, and then it would be decided that the bill would be taken up or not. And till now the government has not received any such report, so there is no use of any speculations.

There is no way that the bill would get an approval, and it is sure that it would be rejected in the upper house, and chances of refusal get stronger with the rejection of the bill by the Shooters and Fishers Party, who termed it to be a 'mere stunt'.
