Furness General Hospital that has been facing crisis will be facing a major incident plan and this has happened as there have been a series of damning reports about maternity services.
If need be then more support will be given to the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust and will be provided by local health commissioners.
Efforts were made by the hospital trust’s independent regulator Monitor to make sure that at the Barrow hospital, maternity services were there.
At the trust, according to reports, an assessment of governance and expert review of maternity services is being set up soon.
With hospital trusts, NHS will be able to work more closely with the calling of a major incident if more services are needed then call in any additional support might be needed.
Dr Mike Bewick, Medical Director at NHS Cumbria, said, “Safe hospital services are of paramount importance “The hospitals trust is already introducing an expert medical team to provide additional support and advice on its maternity services and the steps announced by Monitor this week will provide further assurance that patient care will remain safe in the long term.”
