Robot Performs Liver Transplant Surgery

Robot Performs Liver Transplant SurgeryRobotic culture is getting quite popular in India, after number of films having robots in them, it was time to use it in a real manner, therefore, a surgery, which was one of its kind was performed by a robot , where he transplanted the liver of a four years old child.

The operation took place in Medanta Medicity hospital, which is situated in Gurgaon, Haryana. The surgery was also the third ever surgery done in the world by a robot. Ziad was having liver cancer, tyrosinemia, for which his liver needs to be transplanted. This disease does not allow a person to digest the food and he was already suffering from rickets, from the age of two.

The reason for doing a robotic surgery, as explained by Dr. AS Soin, Chairman of the liver institute at Medanta, is: “Using a robot for a liver transplant surgery enhances the precision and safety as robotic instruments has a much better range of movement, when compared to human wrists and fingers”.

He further affirmed that robotic surgery has lot of other benefits as well, like the robotic hands can even approach the tiniest of holes, like of 5 to 10mm, and also provides a three dimensional view, which helps doctor to get a precise view of the body’s internal parts. Furthermore, it even leaves small operative scars and is less painful. In coming time, people would prefer robotic surgery as it is not only much cleaner but there is also reduced blood loss.
