When a hospital is found to be involved in a serious crime of negligence then there is no power which could save it from the eyes of investigator. Recently, the Furness General Hospital of Cumbria has become a subject of scrutiny as the investigators are integrating each and every patient to unveil the reason behind the authority’s negligence at its maternity unit.
An inspection held by Nursing and Midwifery Council has urged the midwife supervisors to bring a number of changes so that the maternity unit of the hospital could be run without any breach. It has been recommended that a senior medical expert should be recruited so that proper care to the new mum and baby could be provided.
The child unit of the hospital is also under scanner. It has been warned by the Care Quality Commission that if the improvements are brought within the unit before November then the unit will be closed down.
The activities of the hospital are being supervised by as many as 15 committees. The hospital became a subject of criticism when it was discovered that the hospital was lacking in providing care to the babies and mum. It5 has been reported that since 2008, six new born babies failed to survive because of lack of care by the hands of hospital. Moreover, two mothers also succumbed to death after giving birth in the same hospital. The hospital has been warned to take effective steps to ward off the death cases that have been taking place in the hospital.
