Excess of everything is bad, so is intake of vitamins, states Dr. Eric Klein from the Cleveland Clinic. Recently a research conducted by North Americans claims that men taking vitamin E supplements regularly were at a higher risk of prostate cancer .
The research was conducted in the year 2008 on 35,000 men, who were observed for their susceptibility to prostate cancer for having vitamin E regularly. The participants were observed even after they stopped taking the vitamin. In the year 2011, around 7% of the men regularly consuming vitamin E supplement contracted prostate cancer, while 6% of the men contracted the disease who consumed placebo.
Therefore, the researchers were unable to prove that excess of vitamin E lead to prostate cancer. The results of the study did not show a huge difference in the contraction rate, but still the aspect cannot be ignored
According to Dr. Klien, the vitamin supplement is something that is supposed to be consumed only by those who were found to be deficient and not the ones who were completely healthy without any deficiency at all.
The notion that an extra of multivitamin keeps a person even more healthy and immune against disease is completely wrong. In the case of vitamin E, the supplement has failed to protect people against cardiovascular disease, lungs and colon cancer. Dr. Klien further suggests that vitamins should not be considered harmless substances, as a number of researches have proved that even vitamins can have adverse effects.
