Interruption in normal lifestyle, like facing difficulty in movement due to loosening of hip and knee joints, has led to Australians to get their knee and hip replaced.
Recent report, presented by the Australian Orthopedic Association, has reported that in last year, 2010 44,500 knee replacements and 36,000 hip replacements has been done which is 8% increase in the total of 2009. Report also stated that maximum number of people preferred to get their hip and knee surgeries done at private clinics and 68% of the patients replace their hip and knee when they are privately insured.
Going under knife is a common phenomenon for people above 55, and they found it as a hurdle in their lifestyle. Same thing was confirmed by the Australian Orthopedic Association president, Graham Mercer who said that in last five years, surgeries opted by 55 year-olds and above has risen considerably. Though 90% of the knee and hip replacements remain hit, cases do come across where re-replacement operations are performed.
There are various ways by which hip and knee problems could be averted and one of the cures is to have a regular walk.
