Recently, the WHO stated that mental illness would be the most taxing illness for the world economy by 2020. In order to avert its prediction, the World Mental Health Day (WMHD) would be celebrated with a theme called 'investing in mental health' on 10th of October 2011.
Psychiatrists and health experts are taking an opportunity to fight with mental illness, and are organizing certain activities to mend the road that makes a person mentally ill and affected people do not talk to experts or others considering it a shameful thing on their part.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a senior psychiatrist from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) explained that mental illness could be of two types: biological factors or psychological factors. In latter case, it is quite difficult to know the reasons of the cause as there are many incidents that has happened with a person which make him mentally ill like gender discrimination, sexual abuse and domestic violence or rights violation.
For this, they have come up with a plan known as 'Khushaali-Ek Prayas', in which workshops would be held to make them find ways to reduce stress.
It is also said that national mental health programs should deal with broader perspective in which ways to promote mental illness should also be included.
