Dubai Duty Free saw significant surge in sale during the month of September with the total sales reaching AED3.78bn ($1.036bn). The figures represents 16 per cent rise in sale of Dubai Duty Free as compared to corresponding period last year.
Sale of perfumes touched $150m while that of gold stood at $118m in the nine month period, representing an increase of 24 per cent. Sale of electronic articles surged $118m in the nine month period. Cosmetics and confectionary sales rose 22 per cent and 9 per cent respectively.
Colm McLoughlin, Dubai Duty Free's Executive Vice Chairman told that average spending remained high with surge in penetration level of Dubai Duty Free. He hoped the firm to touch record sale figures in the coming years. He had earlier anticipated sales figures touching $3.3bn by the end of 2020.
The state-owned retailer had announced to open a fourth concourse at Dubai International Airport, in its first large-scale infrastructure investment.
McLoughlin said, "Sales soared to a record high on that day and proved to be so successful that we have continued to mark our anniversary day in this way ever since. We see this as our way of saying thank you to our customers who have helped Dubai Duty Free to achieve such fantastic sales results over the years."
