Late pregnancy is something which has become quite common nowadays, but is the medical fraternity favoring the same? Dr. Barry Walters, of King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH), has recently shared his views about it.
It was told that the later a woman conceives more are her chances of suffering from range of health concerns, including diabetes, high blood pressure, which would affect the heath of the unborn baby. There have been cases where women have suffered miscarriage due to the same, but the main issue cannot be neglected that age of mother’s–to-be does matter in instigating serious health issues in infants.
While women do take their decisions, the leading obstetric physician is of the opinion that by doing so, women are putting their infants under the risk of attached health issues.
Adding more fuel to the fire, Dr. Walters called such mothers as “selfish and self-centred”, thereby pointing that babies born out of these pregnancies are more likely to face health concerns at some or the other stage of life.
Even the role being played by some intro-vitro fertilization practitioners has come under the scanner of Dr. Walters, who is of the opinion that women should conceive by the age of 37, as this would ensure a safe and healthy life to both the mother and the baby.
