Rise in Number of STI in Bundaberg

STIIn a recent report, it has been revealed that there has recently been a rise in the number of cases of Sexually Transmitted Infections in Bundaberg. The reports are of the view that there has been a rise seen in the cases of gonorrhea and Chlamydia, irrespective of the continuous efforts being made for the education of people about sex and the precautions they need to take at all times.

It has been revealed that merely in this year, there have been 15 cases registered in the area; they were nearly half in the past few years.

This calls for further campaigning and awareness programs to make people aware about the sort of risks they put themselves to by having unsafe sex.

"Unfortunately some STIs, such as Chlamydia, have few or no symptoms, so an infected person may not be aware that they are infected, but could be infecting their partners”, said Ms. Fiona Stack, from the nurse unit manager from Clinic Wide Bay.

People need to be aware about these dangerous diseases as they have the potential of having very serious results, such as tubal pregnancies and other inflammatory diseases of the pelvis.
