Haiti Inadequately Equipped With Cholera Vaccine

CholeraIt has come to light that the cholera vaccinations are not adequately provided to Haiti victims. Haiti was recently hit by the worst earthquake and soon after it, the country suffered cholera epidemic. Every day about 10 people fails to survive because of the shortage of cholera vaccine.

An editorial published in the Washington Post has suggested that there is a need to provide cholera vaccination to the country. Besides, efforts are also required to be made towards making people aware about the cholera disease and as to how it can be prevented.

The cholera bugs are commonly found on the shores of Bay of Bengal. The sea water is making its way towards the agricultural land of the affected country. Together with the water, the bugs causing cholera have also entered the country.

The outbreak of cholera was first discovered in 2010. Since then the disease has not be eliminated from the country. Although efforts are being made, desired results are nowhere to be seen. The researchers are of the view that change in climate is causing flood and drought frequently. The frequent outbreak of cholera has been linked to frequent drought and flood by the researchers.
