Forty world leaders will meet next month in Copenhagen to discuss the ways to tackle the peril of climate change. The aim of the negotiations is reach an agreement to control carbon emissions as 1997 Kyoto Protocol is going to expire in 2012.

But, the developing nations are doubtful of rich nations’ intentions and want a binding pact in Copenhagen.

Yvo de Boer, Head of the UN climate change secretariat said that inviting world leaders to the end of the Copenhagen on December 7 to 18 could help overcome disputes between the developed and developing countries.

Negotiators from the rich countries are saying that eleventh-hour promises are possible and global warming pact can be reached.

At least forty world leaders are expected to attend the meeting, including British PM Gordon Brown French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Scientists have already said that rich countries must slash carbon emissions by 25-40 per cent from 1990 levels by 2020 to avoid climate catastrophe.
