September 21: World Alzheimer's Day

September 21: World Alzheimer's DayEvery year, September 21 is observed as World Alzheimer's Day. On this day, Alzheimer's association in various parts of the world conducts awareness campaigns in order to educate people about the patients suffering from the condition.

According to the data revealed by Alzheimer's Disease International, around 35 million people around the globe were suffering from the condition dementia, which takes place due to Alzheimer's. The disease of dementia is considered among the top 10 diseases in US which leads to mortality. The diseases are believed to have no exact form of treatment and cannot be avoided as well.

World Alzheimer's Report 2011 reveals that 50 to 80% of the people, residing in developed nations like Australia, were deprived the detection for dementia. The document suggests that a pre-hand detection of the disease or even risk of developing the disease can lead to the commencement of an early treatment. Also, the patients who were at risk of developing the disease could take up certain preventive measures to avoid its occurrence.

Glenn Rees, CEO of Alzheimer's Australia, states that the doctors of the Australia state dementia as an issue that rises with age and that it was a part of elderly age, thereby ignoring the importance of early detection for the disease.
