Coffee can lower stroke risk

If you like coffee then here is good news for you. Reports state that having coffee can cut down the risk of stroke.

The number of coffee cups being consumed was two to three every day in the study.

Two cups of coffee every day can cut down stroke risk by 14 per cent according to researchers in Sweden who have carried out the study and there is a 17 per cent reduction in chances of stroke if three to four cups of coffee are consumed.

But more leads to lesser decreases like six or more only cut the likelihood by around seven per cent. It was also stated by researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm that drinks other than coffee that were caffeinated were also not able to do this but decaffeinated coffee does.

About eight studies that were conducted earlier were taken into account to conclude this result and in these studies about half-a-million people were involved.

It was also stated that the brain can be protected from bad cholesterol with coffee but fears about blood pressure rising still remains.

Dr Ryan Mehta, Clinical Project Director, Bupa Health and Wellbeing UK, commented, “The take away message from this study is moderation. The research suggests that there is an optimum level of coffee consumption, which differs between men and women. Any more than this and the benefit is lost and the risks start to increase.”
