Rugby World Cup 2012 Likely to Boost Economic Growth in Canterbury

Rugby World Cup 2012 Likely to Boost Economic Growth in CanterburyWith residential construction on its way in Canterbury, economists have estimated much higher rate for economic growth in the year ending March. According to the NZIER Consensus Forecasts, the annual economic growth last year was found to be 1.5%, which this year by the end of March 2012 would be at least 2.6%.

This is even higher than the growth that was forecasted in the quarter ended in June this year. Yes, during June quarter it was anticipated to be 2.1%. But at the same time, the annual growth for 2012 is likely to be 3.7% which is but lower than 4%.

Instead of such a push-back at time of Canterbury's rebuild impact, scientists even now have a probability of noticing a big jump in residential construction in the 2013 year. They have estimated it to be up at 39.8%.

Therefore, it seems that by 2014 there would be around 9.8% growth in home building.

According to Reuter’s survey, it is expected from the official statistics that by this week the economy would grow by 0.5% in second quarter. Which means it would slow down from the first quarter's pace that was 0.8%. But at the same time, they also see a better growth in the second half of calendar 2011 as they expect around 95, 000 visitors in the country for the Rugby World Cup.
