Skirts: Appropriate Formal Wear

Skirts: Appropriate Formal WearWearing skirts instead of trousers is believed a better way of presenting oneself at professional front, states a recent research.

Professor Karen Pine, along with other researchers from University of Hertfordshire, has conducted a research so as to break the conventional belief that women who dress like men succeed in life and career. The researchers questioned 300 people about their preference of dressing for women, maximum people supported wearing skirts over trousers.

The participants were made to view pictures of women in trousers and skirts without revealing the faces of the women. Within the duration of 3 seconds, people changed their mind and found skirts better than trousers. The participants were asked to rate 8 images on the basis of self-confidence, achievement, honesty, earnings and flexibility.

As per Yves St Laurent, creator of female trousers, ‘People are judged on their overall head-to-toe appearance and the fundamental role that dress plays in creating a positive first impression cannot be underestimated”. She further stated that women can prove their efficiency at work even if they were dressed in a feminine way.

Ms. Laurent also stated that women should not cross the decency limit of wearing skirts, and avoids wearing falling neckline or short skirts to work, as revealing clothes at professional front tend to mislead the potentials of the women.
