Join The Battle Against Alzheimer’s

Join The Battle Against Alzheimer’sThe Alzheimer’s Association is observing the inaugural World Alzheimer’s Month this month, because of the increase in Alzheimer’s disease globally and the high costs of the condition.

There are over 35 million people suffering and living with dementia worldwide, with as many as 15 million Alzheimer’s caregivers, who do not receive any pay for services rendered in USA.

Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) releasing its new report on 13th September, recommended each country develop a national dementia strategy promoting early diagnosis and intervention.

The key pillars ADI says should include:

• Increasing people’s awareness regarding the value of early detection and interventions that are available;

• All medical and service infrastructures should be strengthened;

• Research on Alzheimer’s and dementia should receive adequate funding, particularly randomized controlled trials for testing the efficacy of interventions designed for early-stage dementia patients.

The report confirming the treatment gap for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, worldwide, also revealed the huge difference between the formally diagnosed and undiagnosed cases, which ranged from 20% to 90% in different countries.

People should be made aware of the fact that memory loss disrupts daily life, however, it is not a typical part of the aging process, but a symptom of Alzheimer’s disease and should be treated, as early as possible.
