The world’s first building exporting energy proposed by Masdar has been put in cold bag by Masdar, Abu Dhabi based state owned company engaged in renewable energy segment. The project has been delayed due to financial constraints involved.
The building was designed by Chicago-based Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture for a 100,000 square-meter in 2008 but the design would now undergo further evaluation. The proposed structure would have a large number of solar penal producing more energy than it consumes.
Abu Dhabi-based Masdar said in an e- mailed response that the project would be completed in phases by accessing the market demand and various financial issues. However, officials are tightlipped over efficiency of revised design of the structure.
Masdar, promoter of the Middle East’s most ambitious plan to develop renewable energy, suffered setback due to global financial crisis making it review plans and finally scaling back the zero-carbon ambitions.
Gordon Gill, a partner at the firm with the winning design had said few days ago, “Mubadala and Masdar are having discussions about the building itself -- either they’ve changed the budget, or the building is too big, and they are concerned about tenants. I’m expecting to hear from them within the month about whether they will go ahead.”
