Bowel cancer affects some parts more in UK

Bowel cancer affects some parts more in UKA research has stated that people from some parts of the UK are three times more at risk of being affected with bowel cancer as compared to other places.

The status of a particular area when it comes to bowel cancer can be seen by people by adding the postcode of their place in an interactive map made by the Beating Bowel Cancer charity.

Every year, about 31 people out of 100,000 die from this disease in Glasgow and when Rossendale and Lancashire were seen, the number of deaths were about nine.

The charity stated that lack of awareness and low uptake of screening were the main causes of the discrepancy.

Chief executive Mark Flannagan said, "Too many people are dying from bowel cancer, no matter where they live. Deaths from bowel cancer could, and should, be much less common. Early diagnosis is key so today we are calling on people to take responsibility for their bowel cancer risk."

Just by knowing the symptoms of bowel cancer, people can save their lives and for this they must participate in bowel cancer screening when it is offered to them.
