In a bid to treat small cell lung cancer, patients have been started getting recruited by biotechnology firm Alchemia.
For the trial of the drug HA-Irinotecan, about 40 people wwill get recruited, according to Alchemia. The trials will take place at the Monash Cancer Centre and the Peninsula Oncology Centre in Melbourne.
The safety and effectiveness of HA-Irinotecan will be examined by the study.
On circulating tumour cells, the drug’s effect will be seen during the trial. The trial will also figure out the population of cancer stem cells in the tumour.
Chemotherapy is ineffective on a small population of cells within the tumour. These cells are also held responsible for tumor regrowth and treatment failure.
In a bid to treat bowel cancer, recruitment of about 390 patients for Phase III trial of HA-Irinotecan might also take place.
In all major markets, for getting regulatory approval of the drug, phase III trial results will be used as this might be effective for people suffering from cancer world over.
Recent research has also stated that across the world, there has been an increase in cancer and this will rise further due to the lifestyle of people.
