Functional cells are responsible for managing memory centre of the brain and enhance learning and these cells can be produced by doing physical exercise, researchers have stated.
In the brains of mice, a link between brain regeneration, or neurogenesis and exercise was established by leading international neuroscientist, Dr Henriette van Praag's research.
According to Dr van Praag, from the US National Institute on Aging, these findings raise questions about how important exercising is in warding off Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease.
He said, "What is most exciting is that a cheap, simple, lifestyle intervention like exercise can influence the production and integrity of new nerve cells in the brain, which suggests our behavioural choices have influence over the functionality of our brains."
In mice it was seen that when they were young, most new brain cells were added by exercising and this is positive for cognitive brain development.
It is being seen that obesity is on a rise with advanced media devices that make you stick to them and keep sitting or lead a sedentary lifestyle and seeing this the above findings are a point to ponder.
