It has been seen that visiting a dentist is the last thing people want to do. There is a fear among people of the dental processes used by a dentist. And this makes them avoid a dentist as long as they have excruciating pain and they have to visit him. This deteriorates their oral health.
This fear has been addressed by a new study; atleast an attempt to address this has been made.
About 60 patients were signed up for a test that was intended to see the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy CBT to manage the hesitance among these people about dental check-ups. All these patients had serious fears about visiting a dentist.
It was seen that people who suffered from dental phobia were helped to a great extent by CBT in removing dental fears from their minds.
About 30 people from this group were given CBT sessions but this offer was accepted by about 21 people out of the 30. It was seen that out of these 21 people, 20 went on to receive dental care without taking a sedative.
