Bromine chemical leak takes many to hospital

chemical-leakMedical treatment was sought by dozens after a chemical leak happened at a Russian city and warnings about the same was given to other residents making them stay indoors as 40 people were sent to the hospital.

Over the railway terminal in the Urals city of Chelyabinsk, a cloud of yellow smoke could be seen as at around 7:30 am there was leakage in several bromine containers in a rail car.

As the cloud spread, treatment was needed by over 100 people.

Schools were shut down as a preventive measure and people were asked to remain inside their homes and if they wanted to go out then wear a face mask.

Nervous system and internal organs face a major threat from bromine but people were reported to be out of serious danger by local authorities.

Alexander Galichin, the region's minister of radiation and ecological security, said, “To calm down the population, I wanted to say that bromine is used for medical purposes to sedate people. Albeit not in such quantities, of course.”

The incident completely alarmed many in Moscow and they all stated that bromine was very dangerous for human beings. Reason of the leak has not been figured out as yet.
