Rising domestic and international traffic at the Dubai International Airport is all set to make it the second busiest airport of the world in November, only behind London Heathrow in terms of passenger’s number. This is concluded in a study by the Centre of Asia Pacific Aviation (Capa).
The airport recently took over Frankfurt International Airport and possibly left Hong Kong and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) far behind. Recently released figures by Dubai Airports, the body that owns and manages Dubai's two airports, Dubai International and Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International, claimed significant jump in the number of passengers using this airport.
The jump is possibly due to growing influence of Dubai as business, commercial and leisure hub of the world. The airport handled a record 4.7 million passengers in July, reporting an increase of 9.7 per on year-on-year basis as compared to the corresponding period last year. Major contribution in the passenger numbers was done by the GCC, Indian subcontinent, and Western Europe and North America routes.
Commenting on the Capa analysis, Lorne Riley, Head of Corporate Communications at Dubai Airports, told, "By the end of the year we project over 51 million passengers will pass through Dubai International."
