World's longest BBQ on Friday

At Cathedral Square, it will be a sizzler night as a barbecue of grand proportions fires up.

World’s Longest BBQ Marathon is about to happen where a group of Commonwealth Bank employees will be aiming for Guinness World Record with the marathon.

Funds to aid prostate cancer awareness will be raised at the event and this will also launch International Prostate Cancer Awareness Month as the six participants will cook non-stop from 7am until 9.30am on Friday.

Leichhardt’s Craig Hollis is a part of the event and his reason for getting involved in this event is lack of awareness among men about prostate cancer. Hollis is confident and overwhelmed about the size of the crowd.

He said, “I like to think I’m a pretty good cook, I’m a pretty competitive person most of the time. I’ve cooked a good dish or two for a few people before, but never for a couple of thousand. Hopefully I don’t make anyone sick. It’s a lot bigger than I initially thought.”

He added he is looking forward to it as it will be a fun challenge, and the group is so great it shouldn’t be too hard.

Rules of the Guinness World Record are that at the six grills, five different food items should be cooking simultaneously. The group will for 26-and-a-half-hours of non-stop barbecuing will be observed by the Guinness World Record team.
