Scientists have stated that pills that save heart patients can be used to save the lives of various other people who are suffering from various ailments.

Percentage of deaths that are reduced by statins when it comes to infections that happen due to pneumonia is about a third.

This means that many others will be getting the wonder drug.

Prof Peter Sever, of Imperial College London, said, “This result is very unexpected. The benefits for preventing heart attacks and strokes are well-established, but after long-term follow-up the most significant effects seem to be on other causes.”

He further stated that infectious diseases cause deaths and these deaths can be avoided by statins. There are benefits that are not known and more needs to be researched to figure out that how these drugs have these benefits.

Research that was conducted to see the success of statins was stopped early because the drug was useful to a great extent in keeping heart attacks and strokes away.

After some years, it has been stated that, respiratory illnesses that cause deaths can be reduced by these drugs.
