Doha strongly places bid for 2020 Olympics GamesQatar has joined the bandwagon for hosting the 2020 Olympic Games and decided to place its bid before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the body floated the idea to be held the games in the non-traditional destinations.

Shaikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar's Crown Prince and Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President, announced Doha's bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020 following the decision of President Rogge and the IOC Executive Board. He said that it would be a unique opportunity for the entire Middle-East region for hosting the games.

He said that the games, if awarded, would inspire youths and bring self-discipline, teamwork and dedication among the youthful population of the region. The country, he said, has moved first step for realizing something special for the region in terms of hosting the 2016 Olympic Games.

Shaikh Tamim said, "I wish to personally thank Jacques Rogge and the IOC for guiding us through and supporting the QOC in entering the bidding race without the disadvantage of dates." He added that the country is eagerly looking forward for hosting the mega sports event in the Middle-East nation.
