Healthy brain part removed, patient files for compensation

Healthy brain part removed, patient files for compensationFollowing an unnecessary surgery, liability has been admitted by a Warwickshire hospital trust as the man who underwent the surgery has suffered permanent brain damage.

There was a pituitary gland problem being faced by a 63-year-old man known as John Tunney from Sutton Coldfield and he could have been better with tablets but a surgery was advised by a surgeon who during the surgery removed a part from Tunney’s brain that has done permanent damage.

Now constant support and care is needed by Tunney who used to work for West Midlands Ambulance Service.

It has been added that if blood tests were reviewed before the surgery then it could have been avoided as the problem was curable with medicine, but the benign tumor was tried to be removed through a surgery and the blunder was done.

Insult has been added to the injury, Tunney’s lawyer said and this calls for a compensation.

Apologies have been sent by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust to Tunney about the error and Tunney’s wife said that everything changed for them as they planned retirement.
