According to official figures of dentistry in NHS, it has been found that in 2010-11, around 850,000 fluoride varnish treatments were carried out on young people by NHS dentists in England. This indicates of having 8% of all child treatments.
However, at the same time, the data from the NHS Information Centre indicates to have an increase in the number of such treatments for adults also. The same has risen by 22%, making the total read 335,000.
Fluoride varnish is basically a treatment that has now been supported even by the Department of Health as well. It has been declared safe, effective and longer-lasting form of protection against tooth decay in comparison to tooth brushing for all children and this is the reason why it is increasingly being used by most of the dentists.
Putting fluoride is also sometimes recommended for protecting tooth decay but there have been great controversies against this kind of treatment. It is assumed that fluoride brings bacteria in play in water supply, and thus it can be harmful.
With the success of Varnish, it has been finally supplied to dentists across the country by NHS managers.
