Australian Scientists Reveal Taste Bud Theory to Shed Kilos

Australian Scientists Reveal Taste Bud Theory to Shed KilosTired of weight shedding techniques? Here comes another one, this time from Australian scientists. It has been reported that by making overweight and obese people taste fat, their ability to consume more can be satisfied earlier.

For the study, a team from Deakin University's Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research recruited 19 people of a healthy weight and another 12 who were overweight or obese and put them on a low-fat diet for four weeks and a high-fat diet for another month.

It was observed that when the participants were moved to a high-fat diet, only the participants of a healthy weight could identify different fat levels. The team found that a low-fat diet could trigger sensitivity to fats in overweight and obese people.

"It was interesting that we could improve fat sensitivity of overweight/obese people with low fat diets - in a sense train their taste-buds to be more sensitive to fat”, centre's Associate Professor Russell Keast said.

Though, Prof. Keast was not satisfied with the fact that simply shifting from high fat diet to low fat diet could make the much desired changes in the body weight.

Meanwhile, the team is expected to probe the underlying theory further so that it could be answered whether different types of fat could affect sensitivity of people towards identifying fatty foods or not.
