Depression Inspires Heart Attack in Women: Study

Depression Inspires Heart Attack in Women: StudyRecently, a US study has found that depressed women are at higher risk of succumbing to heart stroke. The findings of the study have been published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.

For the study, the researchers analyzed the data collected in the period of 2000 to 2006.

Researchers have highlighted that the depressed women tend to be single, smoker and less physical active, all the condition could trigger a heart stroke.

During the study, about 1,033 women had a stroke. It was further revealed that anti-depressants like Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) had 39% higher risk of succumbing heart attack.

However, Dr. Kathryn Rexrode said that medicine doesn’t pose risk to one’s health but does indicate that one taking the medicine is seriously ill. She said, “I don't think the medications themselves are the primary cause of the risk. This study does not suggest that people should stop their medications to reduce the risk of stroke”.

The researchers are blaming poor lifestyle of women for heart attack. Depressed women may indulge in binge drinking and smoking which could cause uneasiness to heart. Therefore, there is a need to help people fight depression.
