Big Rush for Measles and MMR Vaccinations, Reason Measles Outbreak in Auckland and WaikatoAccording to latest reports, in Waikato till now, 17 people have contracted measles and the bad thing is that all these are under the age of 20.

This is something that has created a mess among the parents and they therefore are rushing to get their children immunized as soon as possible.

After noticing such an increase in the demand of vaccine distribution, the Ministry of Health's immunization Manager, David Wansbrough said that it is not only measles vaccines that are majorly demanded by the people these days, but along with this, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccines are also in great demand across the country. He said, "The Ministry of Health is closely monitoring the situation to ensure there is sufficient vaccine supply to meet demand".

In fact, after such a major outbreak of measles in Auckland and Waikato, health authorities are seen renewing calls for children to get immunized.

Yesterday, two more children have been diagnosed suffering from the disease and with their count, the total number of sufferers in the entire region have summed to 106.

As compared to the figures of 2010, on average around 4000 MMR doses were distributed in a month, whereas in February and March this year, this figure has went up to 6000 and over 7000, respectively.
