Qatar awards fertiliser plant deal to South Korean consortium

A unit of Industries Qatar has placed a contract to the syndicate of Italy's Saipem and South Korea's Hyundai Engineering and Construction in order to establish a new fertiliser facility in Qatar.

The sources informed that the contract includes the supply of licences, engineering, procurement, building and inauguration of a complete granulated urea production plant with a capacity of 3,850 tonnes per day and associated utilities as well as off-site units at the Qafco Complex in Mesaieed Industrial City.

Sources added that the Qafco-6 project will entail an investment $610 million (about Dh2.2 billion).

The project is slated to be finalized in 35 months.
