Dental Health Services have revealed that Bunbury kids are losing their teeth and succumbing under tooth decay more rapidly than the Perth children. It has come to light that the rate of tooth decay is 1.5 times higher than the Perth.

The local dentists are blaming the un-fluoridated tap water and poor diet for causing tooth decay. Bunbury Oral Care Centre’s Dr. Lam Nguyen informed that the tooth decay among the toddlers is worse as they are given anesthesia so that their tooth could be extracted.

The issue of un-fluoridated tap water has been a matter of discussion for long among the community members. The Chief Executive officer Brad Bevis informed, “Our role is simply to supply water that meets the guidelines set by health authorities in WA and if at any time those guidelines in relation to fluoride are changed by the minister for health, we will fall into line with those”.

It has been reported that that Water Corporation is also providing un-fluoridated tap water to Eaton, Australind and Dalyellup. The researchers believe that the tooth decay can be prevented if children are provided with good diet, basic oral hygiene and regular check-ups.
