According to a recent research it has been revealed that the use of more vigorous chemotherapy for the patients suffering from lung cancer at an old age. The study is of the view giving the older patients a controlled dose of chemotherapy drugs together with the monotherapy that is given to them shall actually prove as a better treatment for them and would enable them to live longer.
These results were published after tests conducted on as many as 451 patients above the age of 77 or more. The chemotherapy drug vinorelbine was administered to them and the other half was given paclitaxel. This research revealed that the ones being given the combination of the two drugs seemed to respond better and could expect to live longer.
The research was conducted by the scientists at the Strasbourg University in France and it was found that this treatment could surely help in prolonging the lives of the people in need.
It is a usual myth of the doctors that less medicines should be given to older people as the always have a risk of side effects. On the contrary, this research is of the revelation that this treatment "fits elderly patients might gain similar benefits to their younger counterparts from platinum-based doublet chemotherapy".
