For long, surety and reliability has been attached to the herbal drugs but the findings of a recent research have put the so called reliability of the herbal products in doubt. To believe the researchers, the herbal remedies can have dire impact on the health of a consumer.
The research was conducted by a team of researchers of the University of Leeds. The led author of the study, Theo Raynor, said, "Consumers need reliable and comprehensive information when buying herbal remedies". For the study, the researchers conducted a survey on a number of herbal remedies and found that most of the herbals are being sold in the supermarket without carrying any warning labels.
Besides, they also found that 93% of the drugs were sold illegally in the markets under the tag of food supplements. The researchers are warning the consumer of the side effects of herbal products over the health of consumer.
It has come to light that there are some herbal products like the most popular remedies - St John's wort, Asian ginseng, echinacea, garlic and ginkgo which can't be taken in combination with any other medicine. If these herbals are taken in combination with any other drug then the consequence or the result could be dire on the health of the consumer. However, the consumers are not being informed about it.
