Mediterranean Diet Adds 15 Years to the Life

People have heard of many diets, like low-cal diet, and many more which help in reducing weight, but according to the new research done by the researchers at University of Maastricht in Netherlands, Mediterranean diet helps people to live extra 15 years. But the condition is that a person has to combine three other factors like keeping a tab on the weight, stop smoking, and to do physical activities.

The researchers reached to this conclusion by following 120,000 men and women for 1o years, these participants were aged from 55 to 69. Researchers claimed that the Mediterranean diet is full of nutrition, and is high on vegetables, olive oil, fruit, nuts, fish and whole grains, and low in meat and alcohol.

Researchers also revealed that when effect of diet was compared among men and women, then the effect was strongest in the women, as they could enjoy an extra 15 years, as compared to men who could only enjoy eight years more. The modus operandi was that volunteers were scaled on 'healthy lifestyle score’, where factors like smoking, exercise, weight and diet were assessed.

And, they found that a healthy lifestyle can lead to significant health benefits.
