Professor Ernst Criticized For Supporting Homeopathic Remedies

Prince-CharlesOn Monday, the chairperson of complementary medicine, Edzard Ernst, 63, at the Peninsula Medical School in Exeter has described Prince Charles as “a snake-oil salesman” for endorsing the treatments for which, he said that there was scant evidence of efficacy.

He has branded the “herbal detox tincture” as “Dodgy Originals” as they contain the artichoke and dandelion, which is sold by Duchy Originals. The medicine helps to support the body’s natural elimination and the detoxification processes and helps maintaining the healthy digestion.

It was reported that the Foundation for Integrated Health was closed down last year after allegations of fraud. This foundation was supported by Prince Charles.

Professor Ernst has conducted and identified clinical studies from the last two decades. The researchers have been demonstrated for 20 complementary and alternative treatments, which are effective, reasonably safe and affordable by people. These includes John’s wort for depression, hawthorn for congestive heart failure, horse chestnut for congestive heart failure, African plum for benign prostatic hyperplasia, and aromatherapy/massage for palliative cancer care.

He was not able to find any evidences for other practices including dozens of herbal medicines, craniosacral therapy, spinal manipulation and homeopathy, which are available on the National Health Service (NHS).
