Inquiries Ongoing at Morriston for Death Caused By Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is the most dangerous viral infection of the liver, which is speedily spreading worldwide and has recently claimed one female life at Morriston Hospital in Swansea. The virus basically transmits through blood and body fluids.

Latest, the virus has aroused tension for more than 150 patients at a Welsh hospital, who have been recently informed of the positive chances of their being exposed to the virus hepatitis B.

Post rumors of spread of the virus at Morriston Hospital in Swansea, all the non-emergency cardiac surgeries have been temporarily postponed. Regarding the situation, doctors in the hospital said that the chances are higher that the women, who died earlier this month from the disease might have caught the infection from another patient suffering from the same virus, who was operated on at the unit previously.

Though the senior officials have revealed that they are clueless of the spread as the authorities are running every possible precaution to prevent cross-contamination of the virus but an inquiry is ongoing at Swansea’s Morriston Hospital to know the cause of the infection spread.

“We are still trying to establish the precise cause of death but we know the patient who died had the virus at the time of death”, said Dr. Bruce Ferguson, Medical Director of the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg (ABM) University Health Board, which runs Morriston Hospital.
