Malaysia Imposes Ban on Import of Australian Horses

AustraliaA report has told that Malaysia has banned importing horses from Australia. Malaysia has taken this decision so that preventions can be made of transfer of Hendra Virus in the country. The Hendra Virus is a deadly virus which transmits through the flying foxes into horses with the help of their dropping on the food and water due to which the horses gets infected.

The virus then leads to the death of horse and results in transmitting of virus into human beings, but it was observed that this virus could not transmit from human to human.

Australia is one of the important suppliers of horses for racing in these Southeast Asian Countries. It was estimated that Malaysia's yearly import of horseflesh is worth about 1.0 billion ringgit ($330 million). This Hendra Virus has severely affected Australia’s horse racing industry.

The Veterinary Services Department, Deputy Director General, Ibrahim Che' Embong said: "There are no cases of the virus infection here. However, we are taking precautionary measures and monitoring the situation in Australia closely".

It was noticed that till now, 12 horses are dead due to these Hendra Virus and four humans were lead to death by this virus. This virus was first detected in Australia in the year of 1994.
