Researchers in California and the Netherlands claimed to have moved one step further in the development of a universal flu vaccine that will be able to fight all kind of strains. The researchers believed that vaccine will replace the yearly vaccinations commenced by people.
The researchers had recently developed antibodies that were able to fight various virus attacks. They were planning to amalgamate the recently developed antibody CR8020 with the one developed two years ago CR6261 to produce a vaccine that will be fighting many forms of flu viruses.
The vaccine claimed not only provide immune to people so as to fight the viruses but it also helped counter-balancing the viruses that had already affected the people, it was also useful in extreme cases like swine flu.
The researchers had made trials on mice with the antibodies CR8020 and CR6261, which revealed that they were able to fight the flu viruses and H3 and H7 strains, although the human trials were yet to be commenced. As per Professor Ian Wilson, of Scripps Research Institute in California, "The goal is an active vaccine that elicits a long-term antibody response against those vulnerable epitopes”. Many other researches were being carried out like relating the immune system of the body with influenza DNA to fight the various viruses affecting the body.
