Which? Issues Guidelines on the Importance of Securing European Health Insurance Card

EHICWhich? is reported to have issued guidelines on the importance of securing the European Health Insurance Card. Also, it referred to the EHIC Card as very important and expressed its intention to provide holidaymakers with major assistance, in terms of the cost of medical treatment when necessary.

Which? stated, “An EHIC entitles the bearer to healthcare in participating countries, with treatment delivered on the same basis and at the same cost as for citizens of that state”.

Also, Which? is bent on reminding holidaymakers that an EHIC is not a substitute for travel insurance, as it does not cover the expenses of people in terms of treatment at private clinics, accommodation and repatriation to the UK.

However, a survey done by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office revealed that almost one-third of Brits did not get travel insurance for their holidays, and Holidaymakers have been called upon to apply for a European Health Insurance Card, before they travel this summer.

Moreover, EHIC cards can only be used for 5 years, hence, it need to be renewed once it has expired and those who applied for their card in 2006 or earlier will have to renew it, as they will soon be out of date.
