April 2010 to hold Census

The April 6, 2010, a census will receive participation from a total of 8,000 employees. Next year, the census would be held and is being considered to be one of the major censuses conducted in the UAE since the first one in 1975.

An official said: "The importance of the upcoming census is due to the fact that it will be conducted upon the latest international standards, using scientifically technical devices and methods under the supervision of local, Arab and international experts."

It will be under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy that the census will be undertaken, in coordination with Abu Dhabi National Statistics Centre from April 6-19, 2010.

The sixth census, which has arrived at a time when the UAE is dealing with demographic problems, resembles a major event in the country's history.

The official continued that the census decision results from the previous agreement during GCC meetings.

He added: "The sixth population and building census will cost Dh65 million, and 10,000 experts and analysts will take part in the activity, among which will be no less than
8,000 statistics officials."

He also said that in order to overcome the financial shortages and the budget set for the census, the central administration is trying its best to make use of all the available financial and human resources.

On Sunday morning, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior in Abu Dhabi, the census media committee held its fourth meeting.
